Electrical Engineering, Electrical Failure and Electrical Fire

Electrical failures and electronic failures often result in electrical fires. When such electrical fires occur, successful resolution depends upon investigations, evaluations, and analyses by scientifically trained engineers experienced in electrical failures resulting in fire ignition.

Using multidisciplinary techniques, Bison’s background in origin and cause of consumer product failures, investigations of electrically related residential and commercial building fires, electrical service and wiring failures, as well as production facility service and controls for chemical, petroleum, and distribution facilities, enables the firm to quickly and accurately determine cause and origin. A partial listing of such electrical investigations includes:

  • Consumer products
  • Appliance failures
  • Residential dwelling wiring
  • Residential electrical service equipment
  • Commercial electrical service wiring and equipment
  • Electrical distribution systems
  • Production process controls and machinery
  • Instrumentation and signal processing systems
  • Electrical contacts
  • Electrocutions
  • Lightning damage
  • Electrical fires
  • Electrical failures

The Uncertainty of Electrical Fires and Electrical Injuries

The expertise to understand an electrical related injury as the result of eletrical fires, arc-flash, electrical contact or electrocution is critical to determining the real cause of the incident.

The mechanisms for electrical trauma are distinct as are the damage that they cause.

Arc-Flash – is the heat and light energy emitted during an arc or electrical fault. The arc is due to a breakdown in the dielectric strength of insulation between two energized components or between an energized component and ground.

Electrical Contact – is an involuntary but nonfatal flow of electrical current through the human body. Severity of the injury is based on the location of the contact on the body as well as the duration and characteristics of the electrical source (voltage, frequency, and available current).

Electrocution – is death resulting from the flow of electrical current through the human body.

Bison Engineering allocates only Licensed Electrical Engineers on electrical fire and electrical injury cases.
